The Story of "WE RISE"

This inspiring, uplifting, patriotic and defiant 911 song which is the final track on the Barrs Destiny CD started out in 7th Grade.  In March of 2002 just six months after 911, Christina was 12 years old.  Her middle school class was asked to write a letter to our soldiers in  Afghanistan.  She decided to write a poem to the soldiers called We Rise.   When they heard the defiant message to the terrorist  we wont just survive, we rise, the were deeply moved.

When she read it to her 7th grade class they applauded her.  When she came home we decided to make it into a song.  The recording of the song was fraught with many difficulties for during this time Gino and Gina were seriously injured in a car accident.  Gina broke her foot and was severely cut on her knee splitting it open like a baked potato.  Gino's thigh bone was broken into the shape of a tee and his pelvis was broken off.  Gino was so severely injured that he had an 18 hour operation.   Doctors didn't know if he would ever walk again.  He sung his parts on We Rise while he was still in a wheel chair.   (He is now walking fine.)

We initially released "WE RISE" along with the groups first track "Dream Come True."  Here is a picture of the limited number of CDs we released at that time.  At that time the group was called GGKC, pronounced Double G,KC for their names Gina, Gino, Katrina and Christina.  However after traveling with the father Apostle Keith Barr in churches everybody always referred to them as The Barrs so they changed the name.   When they finished the project 13 months later now titled "DESTINY". "WE RISE" was added as the final track.
